TIPS
Shower a minimum of 4 hours prior to your tan. This allows time for your pores to close. Showering right before can allow your pores to be more exposed, therefore allowing the solution to settle in them. If you have to shower closer to your appointment, finish with a cool rinse.
If you have had a sunburn in the weeks leading up to your appointment, please contact me prior. Even if you have already peeled and healed, it can still cause your tan to develop differently. Wear your sunscreen!
When exfoliating, use an exfoliating mitt or wash cloth. No need to use an exfoliating scrub. If you choose to use one, avoid oil based ones. They can leave a residue on your skin that makes it difficult for the spray tan to adhere to. Exfoliate all over, don't forget your neck and feet.
Make sure to exfoliate AFTER you wash and condition your hair and shave. This helps to get off all of the residual residue from those products.
Avoid products like moisturizers and body washes that contain oils pre and post tan. They can leave a residue on your skin that makes it difficult for the spray tan to adhere to. After your tan, products containing mineral oils can strip your tan quickly.
Avoid Dove products. They are not "spray tan" friendly.
Bring or wear loose dark clothing to your appointment. Please do not wear tight jeans or leggings to wear after you are sprayed. Flip flops or slip on sandals are a great idea to avoid losing your tan on your feet. No socks, or Uggs.
Bring an umbrella and wear long sleeves if it's misting or raining outside.
Once tan is rinsed and fully developed (12 hours), moisturize your skin often to avoid cracking and scaling. Spray tans need hydration. Choose a product free of oils or sulfates. Hempz is a great spray tan safe lotion.
Plan your day accordingly. You do you not want to do anything that will get your skin wet, dirty or sweaty until it's time to rinse off your bronzer.
Soaking in hot tubs, taking long, hot showers, swimming in chlorine pools and heavy sweating, all can cause your tan to fade quicker. Try moisturizing your skin prior to swimming and rinsing off the when you get out.
Pat dry after shower.
